Oppenheimer Horse Selected for Prestigious 'Stars of the Future'

Established auctioneers and valuers, Brightwells, are hosting another Stars of the Future event on 1st and 3rd of December. 

Two British-bred horses are amongst those selected for this prestigious event. One is three-year-old Woiwode-Rubenstein from Headmore Stud, owned and run by Sarah and Alice Oppenheimer.

“Our breeding programme is very selective," Sarah stated. "We only breed two to three foals a year.”

Headmore Stud is a regular user of CleanRound products. Sarah's daughter, Alice Oppenheimer, rides the stud’s flagship horse Headmore Delegate, winning numerous national young horse titles. New detergents may kill strangles

A new range of products that kills the highly contagious equine disease strangles, yet is gentle enough to shampoo your horse, has been welcomed by the equestrian industry.
The potent ingredient of Clean Round — DuoMax E10 — has been scientifically proven at a National Health Service bacteriology lab in Birmingham to kill viruses including the strangles virus — streptococcus equi bacteria — and ringworm.

It also professes to help alleviate sweet itch.

Clean Round's Robert Walker claims this is the first range of non-toxic products that prevents strangles.
"It's preventative care, not a cure," he explained.

While no formal trials have been carried out on horses, Bristol charity HorseWorld and sport horse breeder Pennie Cornish have been testing the product — available as a rug wash, shampoo and disinfectant.

In January, an outbreak of strangles affected 34 horses at HorseWorld. The charity usually has one or two cases a year, and has been using Clean Round since February.

Horseworld's Mark Owen said: "It is high risk taking in unknown horses. The proof will come after the winter, but it seems to be working so far."

HorseWorld welfare manager Jerry Watkins added: "It is a non- scientific trial, but we've had no problems in nine months of using the products."

Clean Round went on sale in August and Pennie Cornish has been using the shampoo for several months.
"I can't say it definitely kills everything, but we've had no nasties since using it," she said.

Vets are also positive.

FEI vet John Killingbeck, whose wife Lucy uses Clean Round on her show horses, said: "The science behind it is convincing."

Controlling Sweet Itch

Flies and midges are irritating at the very least! Not only can they contaminate food but their bites can cause discomfort or unpleasant allergic reactions.

Recurrent seasonal pruritis - commonly called sweet itch - can affect around 4% of horses during warm weather. Caused by an allergic reaction to midge bites, sweet itch is so itchy that horses rub themselves to try to numb the areas, thus creating open sores and inflamation of the skin.

There are repellents and soothing creams. Another controlling measure that brings relief to horses enduring sweet itch is to wash them with CleanRound equine shampoos, proven to alleviate the symptoms of sweet itch. It also kills strangles and ringworm.

May 2011: In their 2nd GP at Sheepgate Premier League, Alice Oppenheimer and Wiz scored 66.31% to finish 2nd, only 3 marks away from top spot. A fantastic result - and in doing so they have qualified for the National Championships which are at Stoneleigh, 15th – 18th September. Our congratulations!

Vet endorses CleanRound products

For all competition grooms, the threat of bacterial infections and viruses can be a very real night-mare.

Keeping competition horses fit, well and performing at their best can be hard enough at the best of times. Often the biggest risks come from travelling the horses to competition venues where they come into contact with multiple horses and therefore are exposed to lots of new bacteria.

Performance can easily be compromised if the horse contracts any kind of infection and more importantly you may not know the horse has an infection until they are back on yard – having already spread it. Bacteria, fungus and viruses can cause conditions such as respiratory tract infections, strangles and ringworm, all of which will put the horse, and potentially the whole yard, out of work and could end up costing you lots of
money treating the problem.

So what can we do to help? We can’t wrap them in cotton wool but we can shield them from potential illness and make sure that any new environments we expose the horses to are clean and free from harmful bacteria and viruses. Spraying stables and horseboxes with an antibacterial, anti-fungal and virus protection wash before exposing the horses to them will certainly help to keep any unwanted ailments away. Clean Round yard and stable wash has been designed with this especially in mind and can even tackle strangles.

Because time is also precious the stable wash is easy and safe to use and can be applied quickly with a hand held spray. As the wash is non-toxic, corrosive and non-irritant it can also be applied neat, giving you peace of mind that the environment is safe.

"Hello

I am writing to you to thank you for the product that you sold to me at the Horse of the Year Show.

When I was speaking to either you or one of your partners at HOYS, it was discussed with me about the product. I was charmed into buying a bottle of the Peach Shampoo (body and legs). I said that if I went and washed all the Rockwood Harriers Games Ponies with the shampoo before the Final on Sunday and if we won, we would be given some free bee's, if we won overall or won the stable competiton.

The Children all rode brillently in the Final, but only managed to come an excellent 3rd in both, so sadly didn't quite meet the deal.

When we got back home and down off cloud nine. In the winter we go Hunting with our local pack the Rockwood Harriers. We have currently got a 16hh Irish Coloured Hunter, who last season was overtaken in mud fever after the third or fourth meet, with having reactions to some mud but mainly cow manure. Since using your product this season and washing off with it after every meet, we have been hunting for just short of three months and there is no signs of any mudfever.
